Births, deaths and marriages

Queensland State Archives does not issue birth, death or marriage certificates. This service is provided by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages at the Queensland Department of Justice.

To order these certificates please contact the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

Online indexes

The Queensland Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages has online historical indexes available to search on the Department of Justice and Attorney-General website. These online indexes can be accessed by clients at home or in the Public Search Room at Queensland State Archives. The following years are currently covered by the online indexes of the Queensland Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages:

  • Births: 1829–1914
  • Marriages: 1829–1938
  • Deaths: 1829–1983

If an item is located in an index and a copy of a certificate is required, the certificate must then be ordered through the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
