Following on from the popular 'Murder at the Archives' seminar which focused on serious crime, Queensland State Archives’ 'Crime and Punishment' seminar takes a look at other records dealing with the 'lighter side' of crime and focuses on less serious petty crimes and misdemeanours and their punishment in Queensland. The talk includes school, court, police and other fascinating historical records such as the St Helena prisoner records from the 1830s. From fines to floggings discover how your ancestors broke the law and what punishment was meted out. An experienced archivist will present the talk and be available to ask family history questions relating to the seminar topic. |
