Our Built Heritage
About this exhibition
The Year of the Built Environment 2004 is a national initiative to raise awareness and understanding of the issues related to the built environment.
The exhibition showcases Queensland’s built legacy and helps us understand its role in shaping our identity today.
Our Built Heritage reflects on the history behind some of our oldest built spaces and celebrates the spirit and ingenuity of some of the State’s earliest planners, architects, engineers, builders, labourers and administrators.
Material in the exhibition comes from the archival collections at Queensland State Archives and covers:
- Schools
- Public offices
- Railway and police stations
- Court and custom houses
- Hospitals
- Bridges
- Post and telegraph offices
- Brisbane City Botanic Gardens
