During the 1893 flood three vessels including the survey ship, HMS Paluma, were stranded in the Botanical Gardens. In Brisbane, the flood peaked on the 4, 13 and 19 February 1893.
On 12 June 1893, Brisbane was again flooded with water 14 feet 10 inches above the low-water mark. In line with the enterprising spirit that characterised our forebears, the Paluma was refloated on the next flood.
