Information Standard 31 : Retention and Disposal of Public Records
The purpose of Information Standard 31 is to outline principles and strategies for the retention of government information of continuing value, and to ensure that such information is accessible, inviolate, and protected where privacy or confidentiality is required.
Each public authority is responsible for the appraisal and retention of records to ensure the business, accountability and cultural needs of Government and the community are met. Records must be retained for as long as they are required, and only disposed of with the written authority of the State Archivist.
