Indexes for the Assistant Immigration Agent, Maryborough 1875-1884
Background
Assistant Immigration Agents were responsible to the Immigration Department within the portfolio of the Chief Secretary. From 1882 all Clerks of Petty Sessions were appointed sub-immigration agents. From 1904 the Police Magistrate, Maryborough acted as the Assistant Immigration Agent and from 1908 the Clerk of Petty Sessions, Maryborough acted as Sub-Immigration Agent.
Assistant Immigration Agents publicised ships' arrivals in the local press, provided information and services to immigrants such as accommodation and rations at Immigration Depots, arranged employment, and also processed government statistical information and ships' passenger lists and other immigrant records.

The following series was created by the Assistant Immigration Agent, Maryborough
Series ID 13062 (IMA3/18-19), Registers of Rations Issued to Immigrants - Maryborough, 1875-1884These registers record rations issued to immigrants with rations numbered ration 1, ration 2 etc. Details are entered for single girls, single men and married people and include the name of the ship, when arrived, immigrants' names, rations issued and remarks.
There are also some entries for South Sea Islanders who have been included in these records. They are grouped according to the Island from which they were indentured and name of ship they travelled on.

Explanatory Notes
- "?" Indicates there is doubt about the entry due to difficulty in interpreting handwriting
- Check all possible spelling variants
- All given names are abbreviated as they appear in the original record
- Mc and Mac names are interfiled
- O names are indexed without an apostrophe e.g.O DWYER
- Age references: 6m = 6 months
- In the Date column the dates entered are the dates of arrival in Brisbane.
- # Rations issued to 2 Polynesians who were received in Depot 27th February 1878, having come from Wedgee to complain against their Employer
- *# a deserter from his employer, rec'd in Depot 20 Feb 1878. Sent to Mr Horrocks by Ramsay Bros.
- * Rations issued to Polynesians who arrived from Rockhampton 14th February 1878, per Steamer on route to their Islands, and who were received into Depot, until release of Schooner "Sybil" from Quarantine.
