Companies Index 1863-1959
Background
Queensland State Archives holds company files for companies which are no longer in existence. The documents held in these files include Memorandum and Articles of Association; lists of shareholders; share capital and office holders; and other documents related to the striking off of the company.
The series covered by this index include: Series ID 18218, Registers of Companies, 1863-1959. These Registers cover all three Company Registry Districts of Queensland: Northern, Central and Southern. Up to 1903, the Company Registry in Brisbane was responsible for registration of companies in Queensland.
From 1904 onwards, Queensland was divided into three districts for the purpose of company registration: Northern, Central and Southern. The Company Files for all three districts from 1863-1959 are covered by this index.

PLEASE NOTE: Be aware that when locating a company name in the Index it is not always possible to locate the company file as there are many gaps in our holdings for Company Records.How to Use the Index
The index provides the file references to locate the company files at Queensland State Archives. Details include: Company Name (listed in alphabetical order); Year of Registration; Register Identification number; for Companies up to 1906: the Book number and File number and; for Companies from 1907: the File number and the Registration year
- First identify the Company.
- Make a note of the Book Number and Company name to locate a company file for the period 1863-1906
- Make a note of the File number and the Registration Year for the period 1907-1959.
- To locate the Company File refer to the instructions in Search Procedure 23: Company Files
Explanatory Notes
- More than one entry may be found for a Company
- Check all possible spelling variants
- Some Company names are abbreviated as they appear in the original record
- Names have been transcribed as written
- Mc and Mac names are interfiled
- Names are indexed with an apostrophe e.g. O’DWYER

How to Order Company Files
It is not possible to order entries from this Index as further research is required using Search Procedure 23, Company files to locate the file.
However for Researchers living outside the Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Pine Rivers, Redcliffe and Redlands metropolitan areas it is possible to place a written or email request to search for a Company file and a quote will be provided for the costs to copy any files located. Company files can range in size from a few pages to hundreds. Please provide the Company name and additional information located in the Index when making your request.
