Dentists Indexes 1903-1932
Background
These Indexes were compiled from the Series ID 8400, Special Batches which were created by the Home Secretary’s Office recording the activities of the Dental profession in Queensland. There are three separate Indexes which are called:
- Index to Dentists, 1903-1932
- Index to the Dental Board, 1910-1932
- Index to Dentist’s Apprentices, 1903-1925

This Index was compiled from the following items:

It contains correspondence relating to the registration of dentists by the Dental Board.

Correspondence and documents relating to the registration of dentists by the Dental Board. The bundle contains correspondence pertaining to Deputations, Members Appointments to the Board and Resignations from the Board and petitions to the Governor regarding appointments.Index to Dentists Apprentices, 1903-1925
This index was compiled from Item ID 18000.
This section of the index is to files on individual dentists who had difficulty being recognised by the Dental Board 1903-1927. It lists the names found in a 2-page document contained within the file; titled: Persons apprenticed to a Dental Professional and those with whom they served, 1917-1925 and also a 4-page document titled: Names (covering dates 1903-1914).
The document details: year, Name of Apprentice, Town, Dentist with whom the Apprentice served, and Remarks (usually the number of years of service and the date of commencement of the apprenticeship). Some names appear more than once in the document however they have only been listed once in this index.
Explanatory Notes
- Check all possible spelling variants
- Names have been transcribed as written
- Mc and Mac names are interfiled
- Top numbered references may refer to either the Colonial Secretary’s reference or occasionally the Department of Justice reference. Some documents have both; therefore the reference which follows (i.e. previous and subsequent letter numbers is the one which has been cited).
- Dates cited are the date the document was written, not the date the document was received by the Colonial Secretary’s Office.
- There may be more than one entry for an individual in each section of the index, please check each section thoroughly.
