Indexes - Inquests
Inquests are magisterial enquiries held before a coroner to establish the
fact of death, the identity of the deceased, the circumstances surrounding
the death and whether any charges should be laid relating to the death. In
certain circumstances, inquests into fires have been held, as have enquiries
into missing persons. Inquest files allow researchers to fill out the details
of their ancestor's life through the statements made by witnesses.
Please note that not all accidental deaths result in a magisterial enquiry.
For further information on inquests at Queensland State Archives please consult
the Inquests Brief Guide.
This index was compiled and checked from the original Justice Department files held at Queensland State Archives. It includes inquests from all over the state.
