Trustees Files Index 1889-1929

Background

This index was complied from Series ID 15502, Files Re Trustees under the Trustees Act of 1889.

The files were created as a result of the Trustee Act of 1889, but they include trusts still being administered from an earlier period. The files came from the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Southern district of the Supreme Court of Queensland, with the trusts all appearing to have been set up under the provisions of a will.

Papers include information about land ownership, rental properties, relatives, disbursement of funds, details of children, school fees and employees and wages lists. The date and place of death are given in the records if stated.

Some of the files extend to hundreds of pages and at least one covers a period of more than 25 years.

Please Note: The first 77 Trustee file numbers were originally registered as Equity File numbers (No.476 to 694 with gaps) and cover the period 1889-1891. The Index to Equity Files (QSA Item ID92705) does not however record the re-registering of the files under the Trustee file numbers.

To order copies of an item, complete an index order form. Then post or fax your payment with payment to Queensland State Archives.

Send $12.50 for each reference requested.

For the fee, you will receive up to eight (8) pages, including the list of documents if it is available. Where the file is larger than eight (8) pages a quote will be prepared for those pages not copied.

Please quote the Name of the person, QSA Reference, and Trustee file number.

All prices are $AU, and include GST, postage and handling. Minimum charge for credit card orders is $5. Cheques or postal orders must be $AU. If you require further information, please contact us.
